Meet our Worship Arts Director
Debbie has worked in music ministry since she was a teenager, accompanying choirs, playing the organ for services and eventually directing adult and children’s cantatas and musicals. Besides the organ, she plays the piano, guitar, and handbells.
She taught piano privately for 25 years and has taught choirs at Sawtooth Middle School, Meridian Middle School, and Meridian High School. As far as singing, she sings alto and sometimes tenor. She and her husband, Charlie, have enjoyed singing together since before they were married. When not doing church music, Debbie loves JAZZ! She says she absolutely loved her jazz choir at MHS - so much so, she created a younger jazz choir and a ladies group as well.
Debbie was born in Cleveland, Ohio, attended Ohio Northern University in Ada and spent 30 years in Lima, Ohio. Her family moved here 20 years ago, looking for a family-friendly area to raise their two children. Her parents, John and Toddy; brother, Tim; husband, Charlie; and children all moved to Meridian together. Her mom passed away 4 years ago. Her dad lives next door. Her brother, Tim, has worked for Norco almost 20 years. Charlie is the Controller for EG Johnson Farms, Inc., and Johnson Research, LLC, in Parma. Their daughter, Nicole (graduate of ISU with a BA degree in Sociology and Master's in Counseling), and son-in-law, Bryan (IT Specialist for the Idaho Supreme Court), live on the other side of her dad. They have blessed the family with two grandchildren, Lyla (3 years) and Weston (8 months). Their son, Timmy (Accounting major at BSU and currently doing an internship at Clearwater Analytics), is engaged to his high school sweetheart, Samantha (enrolled in Cosmetology school), and they’re looking forward to a December 2019 wedding!
Besides music, Debbie loves being "Mimi" to Lyla and Weston. She’s also a baseball fan! Their son, Timmy, played ball from the age of 5 until he was a junior in college, playing for NNU. He enjoys playing on a softball team in his spare time with classmates - Debbie rarely misses a game.
Debbie is excited about the music ministry at Church of the Warm Heart and is looking forward to the next phase of the journey. She’s especially happy that the church is in their community. Meridian is also home to former students, friends from the West Ada School District (where she worked for 10+ years) and friends from the community. She cherishes relationships and friendships and loves learning about people's talents and how to use them for HIS Glory.
Debbie would love to have you join us to sing in our worship services and choirs!
