About the Book:
In his book, Dr. Lavender "explores the definition of Pure Religion given in James 1:27: "Pure Religion is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress." We are living in the midst of an orphan crisis or epidemic: there are an estimated 150 million orphans alive today, and 16,500 children die daily from the effects of extreme poverty. This crisis presents a perfect occasion for persons of faith to demonstrate Christian teaching in caring for orphans and vulnerable children".
About the Author:
"Wayne Lavender is a United Methodist pastor, author, speaker and teacher now serving as the executive director of the Foundation 4 Orphans and professor at Quinnipiac University. The winner of the Harry Denman Award for evangelism in 2004, he taught peace with justice courses at the University of Human Development in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, Virginia Wesleyan and George Mason Universities. He is an author of 4 books as well as numerous articles, parables and children's books. He lives close to nature in Hamden, Connecticut".
